Varsity Winterfest has the pleasure of the city's own 50 piece Symphony Orchestra performing 'Carneval' at dusk on the edge of Lake Orr in Varsity Central. This event is for all the family to enjoy the sounds of the symphony, as the sun sets and the atmosphere builds. Enjoy a cheese board or winter picnic basket from the local restaurants, bring your blanket or chair, beanie and scarf, rug up and settle for this amazing extravaganza. Expect the most amazing finale as the orchestra play the Radinsky March as the colourful blooms of the fireworks explode in the winter skies above.

Founded in 1984, the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra is our city’s cultural heart bringing together highly-skilled, amateur and professional local musicians in an ensemble capable of performing anything from popular songs and movie soundtracks through to the most demanding symphonic repertoire.

Conducted by Mark Turpin since 2000, the orchestra performs up to 5 concert seasons per year performing in Gold Coast venues from Robina to Helensvale and including the Arts Centre Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra has also performed for festivals and corporate events such as the Bleach Festival and Surf, Seafood and Symphony at Surfers Paradise Beach and is honoured to perform annually at the Robina ANZAC ceremony.

Members of the orchestra have appeared in the movie Ghost Ship and in the TV production of The Strip.

The Gold Coast Philharmonic orchestra offers a stimulating and supportive musical and social environment for our city’s talented musicians, many of whom have enjoyed professional careers around the world, teach music and currently perform professionally while others have day jobs and continue to challenge themselves by performing challenging and high quality orchestral music.
